Real Estate Development & Capital Asset Management
The mission of Howard University Real Estate Development & Capital Asset Management (“REDCAM”) is to devise and execute real estate portfolio management strategies that optimize the value of Howard's institutional assets in order to deliver high-caliber campus environments that are aligned with the University’s mission.
REDCAM shapes the physical future of Howard University. Through campus planning, real estate strategy, capital investment, major renovations, and development partnerships, the team transforms University assets into places that advance learning, research, student life, health care, and Howard's service to surrounding communities. Explore work now in progress, a selection of projects recently delivered, and the major initiatives guiding the next chapter of Howard's campuses.
From the Sketchbook to the Campus Experience
Howard University’s built environment is a physical record of our continuous renewal. Since the days when architectural plans were drawn meticulously by hand, careful stewards of Howard’s legacy have poured their hearts and minds into shaping the places where generations of Bison learn, live, discover, and serve.
From the foundational work of William “Pops” Hazel and Albert I. Cassell through the leadership and design legacies of Howard H. Mackey, Hilyard R. Robinson, and Harry G. Robinson III, each generation has built upon the foundations laid by those before it, adding new layers of intention, care, and imagination before passing the work forward to the stewards of today.
REDCAM shepherds each project from the identification of a need and the shaping of a response through planning, design, financing, and construction, ultimately reaching the moment when our community arrives and breathes life into the work, transforming buildings into places of learning, belonging, discovery, and care.
