Pharmacy and Health Sciences Relocation

2026-2027 Academic Year Opening Status: The College of Pharmacy has begun a phased move to 640 Massachusetts Avenue. Initial occupancy is advancing while laboratory and later program spaces continue toward completion.

Continuing a Howard First

Pharmacy instruction at Howard began in 1868 within the University's Medical Department. In 1870, James Thomas Wormley received the Doctor of Pharmacy degree and became Howard's first graduate. That history established Pharmacy as part of Howard's identity from the University's earliest years and helped form a health-sciences tradition grounded in education, professional leadership, and service.

A Phased Move Designed for Continuity

The relocation is being sequenced so that teaching, laboratory activity, and student support can continue while new spaces are completed. Initial Pharmacy functions are moving into 640 Massachusetts Avenue, with the first occupancy-enabling work planned around the opening of the academic year. Cooper Hall will continue to support portions of the program during the transition.

Laboratory completion remains the central milestone for moving the remaining Pharmacy program, with that phase currently targeted for the end of 2026. Additional capacity may follow in a later phase. When complete, the relocation will give the College a renewed environment for instruction, collaboration, and the preparation of health professionals.
